| Transcript | Oh! distinctly I remember / (A) year ago in last September / How a certain belle unfettered / Flirted well and flirted better / But from drunkards had foreswore / Merely swore and nothing more / She had a beau that was a dandy / Handsome smart and very handy / His clothes were black his hair was blacker / He did not chew or smoke tobacker / He did not drink but merely swore / Merely cussed and nothing more / But some way she was not suited / She admired a kind that should be booted / She got a beau that chewed and smoked / That cussed and swore each time he spoke / Was tight each week and some times more / Chawed and smoked and drank and swore / Then for a change she got a wuss'un / Worse for drink and worse for cussin / Then she loved two more still worse / That to the country were a curse / Some times they stole but sponged still more. / Lived by this and nothing more / They understood the ace of spades / And run with many vicious jades / This give her a reputation / Brought about by association / And visiting from door to door / She got so mad I think she swore / I love thee yet against my will / 'With all thy faults, I love thee still' / Freckled, yet surpassing fair / Clear blue eyes and flaxen hair / Thy willful ways they vex me sore / Thy winning smiles the vex me more |
